Looks like nobody saw this coming. The Project 7 in 2014 was on F-Type — a sports car. This time however, the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) has picked a compact 4-door saloon XE for the Project 8. Jaguar calls this “the most extreme performance Jaguar ever”, probably because the Project 7 had 575 hp and the Project 8 has even more.
The XE SV packs a highly tuned version of JLR’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8, producing 600 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The transmission will most likely be the 8-speed ZF auto. The ‘extreme’ also means a significantly lighter XE than the standard model, and an impressive 0 – 100 km/h sprint time. Not much information is available at the moment, but the important one is that the XE SV is limited to 300 units — 50 more than the Project 7. These special editions will be hand-assembled at SVO’s Technical Centre in Coventry and are available for customers worldwide.
“The time is right for SVO to produce the most extreme performance road car in the history of Jaguar. The SVO team is possessed by the spirit of performance and committed to creating the most thrilling driving experience imaginable. Our clients worldwide were thrilled by the F-TYPE Project 7. The new XE SV Project 8 takes aerodynamics and performance engineering to another level – it is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that.” – John Edwards, MD, SVO
More details on the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 will be revealed on 28th June, ahead of its world debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex in the UK on 30th June.
