It looks like the electric car enthusiasts in India will have to wait more for Tesla’s India debut. Few months ago we saw Elon Musk had plans to enter the Indian market by summer this year, but it looks like there’s a problem.

Responding to a Twitter user’s question, Musk said, in India 30% of the parts must be locally sourced and the supply doesn’t exist yet.
Tesla has been accepting orders from India too for the Model 3, which starts at $35,000 before incentives. The latest news on the Model 3 is that it has got 215 miles (346 km) range per charge, autopilot hardware, supercharging capability and 0 – 60 mph sprint time in 5.6 seconds.
While the Model S gets free unlimited supercharging, the Model 3 is pay per use. Other features include 14 cu ft front and rear cargo volume compared to 30 cu ft of Model S and 15-inch touch display Vs 17-inch of Model S. Speaking of the customization, the Model 3 gets fewer than 100 configurations compared to 1,500+ of Model S.
Tesla says the Model 3 production will begin mid 2017 and deliveries for new reservations is by mid 2018 or later.
States of Karnataka and Delhi have exempted all local taxes on electric vehicles.
