The Coupe High-Rider or the C-HR for short, has been officially previewed in Malaysia by UMW Toyota (Toyota Malaysia) at Setia Alam Convention Centre. The C-HR was globally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016 and is already on sale in Japan, European and US markets.
The compact crossover retails at a starting price of £21,065 in the UK and gets 1.2-litre turbo petrol with 6-speed manual or a CVT and a 1.8-litre Atkinson cycle petrol-electric hybrid with CVT, all in FWD configuration as standard. The AWD can be added to the 1.2-litre petrol auto. While in the US market, it retails at a starting price of $22,500 and gets a 2.0-litre petrol with CVT.
The C-HR is not on sale in any of the ASEAN markets yet. An official preview in a nearby country doesn’t necessarily mean that Toyota might introduce it in the Indian market, but given the recent popularity of the compact SUVs here, Toyota might seriously consider it. Not to mention the good reputation Toyota already has in the Indian market.
The top-end model in the UK gets a big list of equipment, these include LED headlights with ‘sequential’ LED indicators, bi-tone roof, 8-inch infotainment with navigation, voice recognition, ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, park assist, hill-start assist, reversing camera and a total of 7 airbags.
The SUV measures 4,360 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,565 mm in height. Those numbers might not come under sub-4 metre category, but they are the perfect numbers to take on the Duster and Creta.
