Hyundai has released another teaser of its upcoming compact crossover Kona, which is set to debut in the coming months. Hyundai says the official unveiling is scheduled for the summer 2017, which could mean not too long from now.
The B-segment SUV sports the familiar cascading grille up front. There’s a twin headlamp set up with the LED Daytime Running Lights positioned on top of the LED headlights. The headlight set up is kinda similar to the Cherokee Overland, but done a bit differently.
Hyundai says the Kona name continues Hyundai’s tradition of naming crossover and SUV models after acclaimed travel destinations, notably the Creta, Santa Fe, Tucson and Veracruz. As for the Kona, the name has been taken from the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii, “reflecting the island’s energetic image and unique lifestyle”.
Media reports speculate the Kona to be built on a modified i20 platform, but more official information is expected soon. As for the Indian market, Kona might take some time to be introduced here, since the Creta is doing well for Hyundai.
