Similar to the Maruti Dzire Tour, Hyundai India will continue to sell the pre-facelift Xcent and Grand i10 models for the taxi market under the brand name “Prime”. As for the new Xcent which was launched last week, the company says that the facelift will be exclusive to the individual buyers.
A report from NDTV quotes Rakesh Srivastava, Director of Marketing and Sales, Hyundai, saying – “A product also introduced in the commercial segment loses aspirational value. We are trying to address this by way of a marketing initiative. In future all Hyundai initiatives for commercial segment would be branded under Prime series. We would like to differentiate the commercial product with the product that is going to address the requirement for personal mobility of the individual buyers. We would continue to address the requirements of the commercial segment by way of branding it differently.”
The report further adds that the taxi variants will get only the 1.1 litre 3-cylinder U2 CRDi diesel engine, and not the new 1.2 litre 3-cylinder diesel, for both cars. Hyundai plans to add more cars to the commercial product line-up.
Similar to the Dzire Tour, the Prime series will be a stripped down version with basic features like manual AC and power steering. An official statement on the Prime series is expected sometime soon.
