Skoda reveals its electric mobility strategy with the Vision E concept, to be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show 2017 (19 – 28 April). While the pure-electric vehicles will be produced by 2020, the electrification of the existing model range will begin as early as 2019 with the launch of the Skoda Superb with plug-in hybrid drive.
Speaking of the Vision E, the coupe-SUV will have a total system output of 225 kW (302 hp), and can accelerate up to 180 km/h. The lithium-ion batteries with energy recuperation allow a range of up to 500 kilometers. Two electric motors transfer power to the all four wheels via intelligent management. Skoda says, the front and rear-wheel drive is suitably adjusted to ensure the highest degree of stability, dynamism and safety at all times. Which could mean that there’ll be some sort of a torque vectoring. It measures 4,645 mm long, 1,917 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.
Skoda says, the Vision E also meets level-3 autonomous driving requirements. It can operate independently in traffic jams, go into autopilot on motorways, stay in lane and swerve, carry out overtaking manoeuvres, independently search for free parking spaces and park and leave parking spaces alone. To enable this, various sensors with different ranges and numerous cameras constantly monitor the traffic situation.
The pure-electric vehicles will be built on MEB platform, and the brand hopes to have five such vehicles by 2025.
