The production version is rumored to be named GT4. Regardless, the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept is a four-door coupe of the AMG GT family, and will have the “EQ Power+” hybrid powertrain.
“The four-door sports car from Affalterbach will seamlessly continue the success story of the AMG GT. The dynamic fastback will also be highly suitable for everyday use thanks to the large tailgate and the variable interior and luggage compartment”, says Mercedes.
The AMG GT Concept borrows design cues and aerodynamic functionalities from the AMG GT R, such as the Panamericana grille and moving radiator shutters in the centre and side air intakes. For DRLs and tail lamps, Mercedes is using “nano active fibre technology”, which produces three-dimensional illumination effect. While Audi has dynamic turn signals, here its a pulse flash.
After the Formula 1 vehicle, the AMG GT Concept is the second one to bear the new designation “EQ Power+”. The hybrid powertrain combines a 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine with an electric motor in the back, which helps the four-door coupe sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in under 3 seconds. Power is distributed via fully variable 4MATIC+ all wheel drive system. The electric motors drive the rear wheels directly and has the effect of an additional booster. Besides this, according to the principle of Torque Vectoring, every wheel can be allocated torque individually.
Expected in the market by 2018, and will take on the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
