About 15 years ago, I did a design course that included one of the popular 3D modeling softwares in the world, 3DS Max. During my initial days of learning that software, my car models looked pretty much like the one we’re seeing here from Jaguar, mostly because I just couldn’t figure out how to properly create curves and finer details. The Jaguar Type 00 concept serves as a nice reminder of my past learning days. But anyway, the Type 00 concept is the continuation of Jaguar’s transition.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the 4-door sedan that was being road-tested under a heavy camouflage. Instead, we’re being treated with this strange two-door contraption, painted in Miami Pink and London Blue. This is, of course, not the production model but the design direction the brand is going to take moving forward. The design team claims to have taken inspiration from the brand’s past models including the E-Type, but the more you look at this concept, the more it reminds us of the RR Spectre. It just looks like a cheap knock-off of Spectre, isn’t it? Even those 23-inch wheels look somewhat similar to those of the Spectre.
However, the Type 00 has a couple of interesting details. Notice that the concept has no traditional rear-view mirrors or visible cameras, and that is because the rear-view cameras are hidden inside the hand‑finished brass “ingot” on either side. The leaper on these is barely visible, but that is probably the idea, because you know, the leaper may scare the LGBTQ+ community. Right above these ingots are the so-called Prism case. The case contains three “totems” of natural materials – Brass, Travertine and Alabaster.
The white upholstery opens to reveal a cubby with a vibrant blue hue. Each totem alters features such as ambient lighting and screen graphics. It also plays a unique soundscape and releases scents. Jaguar suggested that bespoke totems could be tailored to individual customers. It remains to be seen how many of these “unique features” are gonna make it to production.
As for the numbers, well, the Type 00 is built on the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). The company is targeting WLTP and EPA ranges of 770 km (478 mi) and 692 km (430 mi), respectively. The company also claims a charging speed of 321 km (200 mi) in as little as 15 minutes. Power and torque figures? Yea, no, we don’t have any of those yet. These numbers will probably scare away the LGBTQ+ community.
