Hyundai INSTER debuts as a global tiny BEV

Exter then, and now Inster. Dafaq is going on here Mr. Dexter?!

Nope, this ain’t got nothing to do with the Exter that was launched in India last year, except for Hyundai badges. You probably remember reading about the Casper a couple of years ago. Well, the Inster is an all-electric version of it. In Korea, it is simply called the Casper Electric, and is scheduled to go on sale this summer (maybe in August). While the ICE version was/is exclusive to the Korean market, the Inster/Casper Electric will also be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific, following its Korean launch.

Visually, the Inster tries to differentiate itself from Casper with a slightly different front fascia. The running lights at the top are pixels, and at the bottom, there are new circular headlights. On the side, there’s a different set of wheels, of course, with size options ranging from 15- to 17-inches. At the rear, there are pixels again. These ICE Casper could be updated with these styling elements in the coming days.

The Inster is powered by a single BorgWarner-supplied electric motor at the front, offering 71.1 kW (97 metric hp) in the standard variant and 84.5 kW (115 metric hp) in the long-range variant. The torque, however, is 147 Nm (108 lb-ft) in both variants.

The standard battery pack is 42 kWh, estimated to offer a WLTP range of over 300 km (186 mi). The long-range pack is 49 kWh, estimated to offer a WLTP range of 355 km (221 mi) with 15-inch wheels. The battery packs can be DC fast-charged with up to 120 kW. The tiny BEV also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality that allows you to power external devices (110V/220V).

But anyway, if you’re into performance figures, the standard model is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). As for the long-range model, the numbers are 10.6 seconds and 150 km/h (93 mph).

The interior of the Inster looks upgraded compared with that of the Casper. Tech inside includes a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. Since this is gonna be a global model, there’s a fairly big list of ADAS, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Safe Exit Warning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Highway Driving Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, and Rear Occupant Alert.
