Peugeot took the wraps off the third-gen 5008 recently, which will be available in mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and of course, all-electric variants. Interestingly, all three are gonna be named E-5008, for fairly obvious reasons. Buyers get to choose from Allure and GT trims, with the latter being a sporty, range-topping model. Goes on sale in Europe in Autumn 2024.
The photos here showcase the E-5008 GT trim, which differentiates itself on the outside with a dual-tone paint scheme, Pixel LED headlights with 3-claw LED running lights, and aerodynamically designed 20-inch Diamond-cut alloy wheels. It is built on the new STLA Medium platform—which also underpins models such as the third-gen e-3008 and a bunch of upcoming models including the 2025 Citroen C5 Aircross and the 2025 Jeep Compass.
The new model has grown in size, thanks to the aforementioned platform. It now measures 4,791 mm long (+150 mm), 1,895 mm wide (+51 mm) and 1,694 mm tall (+48 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,901 mm (+61 mm). The E-5008 offers up to 3 rows of seating, and Peugeot claims a luggage/boot capacity of 1,815 litres when you fold the last two rows and 748 litres when you fold only the last row and 259 litres with all rows up.
Inside, a 21-inch curved panel called the i-Cockpit grabs all the attention, but the multi-tone dashboard and centre console design are just as jazzy. There’s something called i-Toggles, 10 customizable touch-sensitive buttons which offer quick and easy access to some of the user’s favourite functions. Other key highlights include tri-zone climate control, optional AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken)-certified front seats (designed to prevent back pain), natural language voice recognition, ChatGPT-based AI assistant, optional VisioPark 360° system, and Drive Assist Plus 2.0 ADAS suite which includes—among other things—Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, and semi-automatic lange change. On the GT version, the front seats feature ventilation and massaging functions, while the rear seats are heated.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the all-electric E-5008 will be offered in three variants: a front-wheel-drive variant with 157 kW (210 bhp/213 metric hp) and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft), another front-wheel-drive variant with 170 kW (228 bhp/231 metric hp) and 345 Nm (254 lb-ft), and of course, a dual-motor AWD variant with combined figures of 237 kW (318 bhp/322 metric hp) and 515 Nm (380 lb-ft). A 400-volt, 98 kWh lithium-ion battery pack (NMC chemistry) is estimated to offer a range of up to 660 km (410 mi) depending on the variant. The battery pack can be DC fast-charged with up to 160 kW.
So those were the all-electric variants. But as mentioned, there’ll be hybrid variants too. The first one is a 48-volt mild-hybrid one named E-5008 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6. What that long-a** name actually means is that it is a combination of a 100 kW (136 metric hp) 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into a 6-speed DCT. The mild-hybrid functionalities include torque assistance at low engine speeds and a claimed reduction of up to 15% in fuel consumption. Peugeot also claims that in urban driving, the 136 e-DCS6 can operate up to 50% of the time in 100% electric mode.
The second one is, of course, a PHEV variant named 195 e-DCS7. This is a combo of a 110 kW (150 metric hp) 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 92 kW (125 metric hp) electric motor and a 7-speed automatic transmission. Peugeot claims an all-electric range of over 80 km (50 mi).
