Some of you might remember this contraption called i20 Active; it was kinda “cool” before these small front-wheel-drive crossovers such as Brezza, Venue and Sonet took over the Indian market. While Hyundai didn’t offer a direct replacement for the i20 Active in India, for markets outside, the jacked-up i20 was replaced with Bayon (based on the same i20 platform) in early 2021. Well, the Bayon has received a facelift for 2024
It’s literally a “face”lift; meaning, there are no significant changes on the rest of the body other than the face. And, speaking of the face, the grille design has been changed. It has been designed in such a way that it now conceals the headlights; the dark headlights kinda create an illusion of being part of the grille itself. The upper grille/slat has been replaced with a light bar, of course. On the side profile, there is a new set of wheels (up to 17-inches), while at the rear, the bumper re-design offers a sportier look from rear-three-quarter angles.
Four new colors have joined the 9-color palette: Lumen Grey Pearl, Meta Blue Pearl, Lucid Lime Metallic and Vibrant Blue Pearl. A Phantom Black two-tone roof option is also available.
Inside, things look the same, but this time around, there’s a standard 10.25-inch central touchscreen (optional previously). A 10.25-inch digital cluster remains an optional extra. Filament bulbs inside have been replaced with LEDs. Other key highlights include updated Bluelink telematics, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, a wireless smartphone charging pad, two USB-C ports, and an 8-speaker Bose audio system.
ADAS include Lane Following Assist (LFA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA). The Bayon now features second-generation eCall based on the 4G network, which automatically alerts emergency services if the vehicle’s airbags are deployed in case of an accident.
Most likely there won’t be any changes in the powertrain options since Hyundai didn’t discuss that topic in its official press release. Either way, I think these updates will appeal to the younger audiences looking for a compact FWD crossover.
