You probably must be aware of the RS Q e-tron E2 and its predecessor the RS Q e-tron. For some strange reason, Audi has decided to infuse some of the aforementioned Dakar rally cars’ elements into the Q8 e-tron SUV. It’s called the Q8 e-tron edition Dakar, and it can be yours for a cool price tag of €120,000 in Germany, which is about €32,700 more than the Q8 advanced 55 e-tron quattro—upon which it is based.
So, what do you get for all those extra Euros? To begin with, the Q8 e-tron edition Dakar will be available in Siam Beige metallic, Mythos Black metallic, and Magnetic Gray exterior colors, but the Singleframe grille always comes in body color. A light strip for the grille is an optional extra. On the side, the wheel arches are a li’l wider here, and housed inside those arches are 20-inch 5-V spoke S design wheels wrapped with General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tires, lending the vehicle an extra 31 mm ground clearance. A unique decal package inspired by the RS Q e-tron is available but is limited to 99 units.
Matrix LED headlights are included as standard. The special edition also comes with a standard roof rack—which is claimed to have a load capacity of 40 kg (88 lbs). A bag for the roof rack and straps for attaching accessories are also included.
Thanks to the model-specific modifications, the Q8 e-tron edition Dakar boasts approach, breakover and departure angles of 20-, 26- and 19-degrees, respectively. The air suspension lowers the vehicle by 15 mm at 85 km/h (53 mph), 17 mm at 100 km/h (62 mph), and 13 mm at 120 km/h (75 mph). Wading depth is claimed to be 300 mm.
On the inside, the S line package is included as standard. The pack includes deeply contoured sports seats upholstered in Dinamica microfiber and artificial leather. Other key highlights include a multifunction sport leather steering wheel, black roof lining, stainless steel pedals, black artificial leather on the dashboard, special edition-specific background images on the MMI display, and standard two-zone automatic air conditioning. Options include Audi Sport stitching package in red, four-zone climate control, and 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D sound.
The output figures are gonna be the same as those of the model on which the Dakar edition is based. The numbers are 300 kW (408 metric hp) in boost mode and a torque of 664 Nm (490 lb-ft). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 5.9 seconds, which understandably is 0.3 seconds slower than the regular car. The top speed is limited to 200 km/h (124 mph). The battery pack is the same 114 kWh (gross) unit, offering a WLTP range of 487 km (303 mi).
