Yesterday, we learned that Honda is seriously considering bringing back the Prelude two-door sports coupe, albeit in an all-electric format, which is understandable. I mean, the industry itself is headed in that direction. I’m not entirely sure what Nissan has in mind, but it is showcasing the Hyper Force concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. Yes, this is an all-electric concept, and if you saw the photos already, you might already know what it is or will be in the not-too-distant future.
Let’s face the elephant in the room first. Nissan doesn’t mention that this so-called Hyper Force concept is a future successor of the R35 GT-R, but obviously, there are some indirect references such as the design and the two driving modes (we’ll talk about these in a minute). The side profile, the shape of the windows, the rear fascia, and the circular taillights.. all give a strong hint of the GT-R. The front fascia looks a bit different, but you know, most of the car is GT-R. Notice that the pixelated badge on the grille is very similar to that of the GT-R. What more hints do you need?
While talking about aerodynamics, Nissan says that there’s a newly developed plasma actuator that suppresses air detachment to maximize grip and minimize inner-wheel lift during cornering. I’m not entirely sure how that works, but let’s wait for the production model.
Getting inside is via butterfly doors, and I guess that’s another big change besides the powertrain. And once inside, the cockpit looks all wacky with way too much ambient lights. But if you notice, there are primarily blue and red colors, and those are related to the car’s two driving modes: R (Racing) and GT (Grand Touring). The R mode makes the cockpit red while displaying racetrack-useful information such as tire grip and temperature, air pressure, brake rotor temperature, power distribution, etc.
The GT mode swathes the cockpit in blue and displays information suitable for comfortable cruising. In this mode, the information displayed includes air conditioning, audio, suspension and stabilizer settings. Apparently, the suspension and stabilizers can be adjusted on the screens.
Just like the ICE-powered GT-R, this Hyper Force concept packs an all-wheel-drive configuration, albeit an all-electric one. In combination with a solid-state battery pack, Nissan claims an output of up to 1,000 kW or 1,360 metric hp. I know, all this sounds crazy, but you know, the future itself is gonna be crazy.
