Bodyshell integrity: stable; footwell area: stable
Global NCAP crash tested the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia duo as well, in which both sedans scored 5 stars in both Adult and Child occupant categories. In the Adult occupant category, the cars scored 29.71 points out of 34 and in the Child occupant category, both models secured 42 points out of 49. These crash tests are valid only for the Indian market.
The tested cars were equipped with safety features including front airbags, side airbags (different variant), curtain airbags (different variant), rear Isofix mounts, seat belt reminder (front and rear), and ESC. Both cars comply with GTR 9 – UN 127 pedestrian protection as well.
Adult Occupant Protection
In the adult occupant protection tests, the report said that the protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. Driver’s and passenger’s chests showed adequate protection. Driver’s and passenger’s knees showed good protection. Driver’s tibias showed adequate protection and passenger’s tibias showed good protection. The Footwell area was rated as stable. The bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings.
Side impact: head, chest and abdomen protection was adequate while the pelvis showed good protection.
Side pole impact: curtain airbags meet the fitment requirements and a pole impact test was performed in a version with side head protection airbags showing good protection to the head abdomen and pelvis, and marginal protection to the chest.
Child Occupant Protection
As for the child occupant protection, the report said that the child seat for a 3-year-old was installed rearward facing using the i-size anchorages and a support leg and it was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection. Side impact: both CRSs offered full side impact protection.
The car offers 3-point belts in all seating positions as standard in all versions. It does not offer the possibility to disconnect the passenger airbag in case a rearward-facing CRS will be installed in this position. The CRS installation pass for all assessed CRS. Download the full report here.
