The Volkswagen T-Cross (sold as Taigun and Skoda Kushaq in India), which made its debut in late 2018 is apparently, a successful product. I mean, the company claims to be producing ~300,000 units a year, which if true is a fantastic number indeed. The tiny crossover has just received a facelift (dubbed as a “major update”) and is scheduled to go on sale (pre-sales activities) in the fourth quarter of 2023. I’m not entirely sure if the aforementioned Indian cousins will receive the same updates, but I guess that’s a different story.
In the meantime, let’s take a look at what’s all the hoopla, starting with the styling updates. Speaking of which, the 2024 T-Cross facelift sports a refreshed front fascia with new LED headlights and a new grille pattern with a chrome bar that connects the running lights. The IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights are optionally available. On the side, there is a new set of 16-inch wheels, and at the rear, the taillight clusters have new internal detailing. There are some subtle changes on the rear bumper as well. Three new paint options have joined the palette: Grape Yellow, Clear Blue Metallic and Kings Red Metallic.
So, what’s new on the inside? Well, there’s a new dashboard dominated by a 9.2-inch touchscreen. The base model, however, gets an 8-inch touchscreen. A digital instrument display is now standard across all trims of the T-Cross. And, VW claims that the dashboard and front door cards feature significantly higher-quality surface materials. A manual AC comes standard, while the Air Care Climatronic automatic AC with back-lit touch sliders is an option.
As for other updates, the optional Travel Assist is now claimed to offer significantly improved comfort. Depending on the traffic ahead and speed limits, the T-Cross can control the vehicle’s speed with automatic acceleration and braking. The technology can also include bends and roundabouts in its control interventions. When fitted with DSG, the vehicle can automatically perform stop-and-go operations.
Another update is that VW claims to have increased the drawbar load of the T-Cross from 55 kg (121 lbs) to 75 kg (165 lbs). This additional 20 kg (44 lbs) increases the maximum load that can act vertically on the optional removable towbar, the company said.
No other changes; the new T-Cross is gonna continue with the existing set of powertrain options (in Germany): a 70 kW (95 metric hp) 1.0L TSI with a 5-MT, an 81 kW (110 metric hp) 1.0L TSI with 6-MT or 7-DCT, and a 110 kW (150 metric hp) 1.5L TSI with 7-DCT.
