Alpine A424_β previews a 2024 LMDh hypercar

Alpine-A424-β-2024-Le-Mans-hypercar_4

That’s right; the name is Alpine A424_β, and Alpine even offers an explanation for that name: the ‘A’ followed by three digits beginning with 4 apparently respects the tradition of the brand’s victorious endurance cars, while 24 echoes both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the year 2024, and of course, β (beta) designates the final phase before its launch.

The A424_β (its final version, of course) is gonna be Alpine’s entry into the 24 Hours of Le Mans after 60 years. It looks just as hyper as an LMDh hypercar should look in 2024, with an equally stunning livery of bright colors. My personal favorite design elements are those Alpine logo taillights; I think they match 100% perfectly with the rest of the bodywork.

As mentioned, the A424_β is gonna be competing in the LMDh category. The construction is mostly carbon fibre, including the chassis and bodywork, resulting in a weight of ~1,030 kg (2,271 lbs) despite packing a V6 hybrid powertrain. Speaking of the powertrain, it’s a combo of a 3.4-litre single-turbo V6 with a 50 kW (68 metric hp) Bosch electric motor at the front coupled with an Xtrac 7-speed gearbox. As you might know, the system power output as per the regulations is limited to 500 kW (680 metric hp). The combustion engine can rev up to 9,000 rpm.
