When you’re out in the market for a brand new shooting brake, what options come to your mind? I don’t know about you, but we can’t come up with some without doing some quick research. In the recent past, there were the Ferrari GTC4Lusso and CLS Shooting Brake. At present, depending on the market, you can probably get the Arteon Shooting Brake, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake, and if you fancy a three-pointed star, you can get the CLA Shooting Brake as well. Kia also probably has something on sale, but the point is, shooting brake remains a niche segment and will most likely continue to be so for many years to come.
Joining that elite list is the BMW Concept Touring Coupé—which made its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023. Well, before you get too excited, read the name one more time. BMW calls this a concept, without sharing too many details. Obviously, the face is very similar to that of the Z4, the doors are from the Z4 and so are the taillights and some parts of the bumper. And, did we mention that the mirrors are also from the Z4? Which makes it obvious to call this a Z4 Shooting Brake, but let’s wait for an official announcement.
Apparently, the designers took inspiration from past models such as the 328 Touring Coupé that won the Mille Miglia endurance race back in 1940 and the 02 Series models of the early 1970s, which featured “Touring” in their name to distinguish them from sedans. But whatever it may be, the internet is very impressed with this new BMW Concept Touring Coupé. The concept rides on exclusive light-alloy wheels, measuring 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the rear axle. The exterior body is finished in Sparkling Lario with embedded blue glass flakes.
Inside, it is mostly Z4, but most importantly, you have that cavernous boot space for all your bespoke luggage from Schedoni leather workshop in Modena. The dual-tone interior is the result of the collaboration with the Italian leather workshop Poltrona Frau.
As mentioned, BMW didn’t share any more details, but I guess those are not too difficult to imagine.
