Renault has given the 5th-gen Clio a sexy facelift that includes styling revisions and tech upgrades. At the time of publishing this story, the new Clio is not yet available for sale (not even in France), but your local dealer might be having some reliable information. The trim lineup includes the new Esprit Alpine.
And that’s what we’re seeing in the photos here. But anyway, as you can probably see, the styling revisions are rather racy—especially on the front fascia where you’ll see inverted Z-shaped light signatures that are made of several LED arrays. That motorsport-inspired aerofoil-like blade at the front is gonna be the same color as the body in the Techno trim and in Matte Shale Grey in the Esprit Alpine trim.
The rear bumper has been given a makeover as well. The lower edge is in Matte Black in the first two trims, Glossy Black in Techno, and Matte Shale Grey in the Esprit Alpine trim. The modernized rear lights now include crystal-clear covers. The wheel sizes measure up to 17-inches, and of course, there are six choices in total including four aluminium alloy wheels. The Techno trim, for example, comes with 16-inch diamond-cut black aluminium wheels.
Buyers get to choose from 7 body colors: Glacier White, Star Black, Shale Grey, Iron Blue, Flame Red, Valencia Orange and Rafale Grey—a new triple-layer coating that looks solid from a distance and pearlescent from close-up.
As you can probably tell, the interior is also of the Esprit Alpine trim featuring sporty front seats. And, depending on the trim, the driver display is gonna measure up to 10-inches (7-inch for base models). A 9.3-inch portrait-style touchscreen can be connected wirelessly with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The base models will have to make do with a 7-inch touchscreen—which also offers wireless connectivity. Sustainability has been given more significance here.
The Clio Techno trim’s seats, door panels and dashboard are clad in a specially developed sustainable fabric that comprises up to 60% Tencel branded modal fibres—a bio-based cellulosic fibre manufactured by the Lenzing Group. Also, there’s no leather in the new Clio; the surfaces are covered in TEP, a grained-coated fabric made of bio-sourced and polyester fibres. The Esprit Alpine’s seats are also made of sustainable materials, including a fabric that is 72% recycled PET on the seat and back and a 13% recycled grained coated textile on the seat sides.
The ADAS suite will include 20 functionalities including Active Driver Assist, a 360° camera, and Active Emergency Braking with cyclist and pedestrian sensors.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the powertrain lineup for the Clio facelift includes SCe 65 (48 kW/65 metric hp 1.0L 3-cylinder N/A; 5-MT), TCe 90 (66 kW/90 metric hp 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo; 6-MT); TCe 100 LPG (74 kW/100 metric hp 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo; 6-MT); Blue dCi 100 (74 kW/100 metric hp 1.5L 4-cylinder diesel; 6-MT), and of course, E-Tech 145 hybrid—which is a combo of a 69 kW (94 metric hp) 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors (a 36 kW traction motor and an 18 kW starter-generator) and a CVT, offering a system power output of 105 kW or 143 metric hp.
