Honda Cars India (HCIL) has updated the 5th gen City (7th gen globally) and its hybrid sibling City e:HEV for 2023 and beyond, with ex-Delhi prices starting at INR 11.49 lakh and INR 18.89 lakh, respectively. Among other things, the new models offer new base trims.

If you remember, the City e:HEV was originally launched with a single ZX trim, but now there’s a cheaper V trim. The SV trim is a new introduction for the City petrol.
So, what’s all the hoopla? Well, visually, both models get a honeycomb mesh-like grille and carbon fibre-like inserts on the lower part of the bumpers; notice that the rear bumper has a diffuser-like design at the bottom. Both models also get a boot lid spoiler, because why not? A new Obsidian Blue Pearl paint joins the 6-color palette that also includes Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic and Golden Brown Metallic.
Inside, things remain unchanged with key highlights such as an 8-inch touchscreen, an 8-speaker audio system, a 7-inch color MID, auto AC, a one-touch electric sunroof, ambient lighting, and so on and so forth. However, this time around, you get wireless smartphone connectivity that enables you to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. A PM2.5 cabin filter is standard across all trims.
Another highlight of the regular City is the introduction of the Honda Sensing suite of active safety and driver assistance systems (ADAS), which comes standard except for the base SV trim. The suite includes Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Lane Keep Assist System, Lead Car Departure Notification System, Auto High-Beam, and Adaptive Cruise Control. As for the City e:HEV, well, the original model already came with ADAS, and now it is standard in both V and ZX trims. Passive safety includes 4 airbags while the VX and ZX trims get 6 airbags.

No mechanical changes, but this time around, the regular City comes with only a petrol engine. The 1.5L 4-cylinder N/A unit offers 89 kW (121 hp) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque, and can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
The e:HEV model continues with a 1.5L 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine combined with two electric motors, one of which is integrated into the CVT. The system power output in this case is 93 kW or 126 metric hp. For this model, Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 27.13 km/l.
