Perhaps “clone” isn’t an appropriate word. It might not drive as good as an original Porsche, but for an untrained eye, it sure looks like one. And that’s all that matters, at least for some Chinese automakers.
The controversial vehicle we’re taking about today is called Zoyte SR9. The Zoyte also has couple of other SUVs in its portfolio which instantly remind you of Audi Q3 and Volkswagen Tiguan.
The Zoyte SR9 is a bit larger than the Porsche Macan, measuring 4744 X 1929 X 1647 mm vs 4697 X 1923 X 1624 mm. The wheelbase at 2850 mm is larger as well, compared to 2807 mm of Macan. The Zoyte SR9 packs a Mitsubishi sourced 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 190 hp @ 5500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque @ 2400 – 4800 rpm. There is a 5-Speed manual or a 6-Speed dual clutch automatic transmission on offer.
The entry level Macan packs a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol, producing 252 hp @ 5,000 – 6,800 rpm and 370 Nm of torque @ 1,600 – 4,500 rpm. Transmission is taken care by a 7-Speed PDK which sends power to the all four wheels. While we don’t have SR9’s 0 – 100 km/h timing or top speed numbers, the entry level Macan does it in 6.7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 229 km/h.
The Zoyte SR9 copies Macan’s interiors as well, and packs a good amount of kit. Automatic headlamps, heated ORVMs, LOGO projection lamp, 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, Sport mode, LCD instrumentation, blind spot monitoring, lane deviation indication, cruise control, climate control, ambient lighting, Tire Pressure Testing (TPMS), electronic parking brake, dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, ABS + EBD, Brake Assist, ESC, Reversing radar (front and rear), Parking Assisted Rear View Imaging System, 360-degree visualization, hill start assist and so on.
A report from Autocar UK states that Porsche German HQ is planning to sue Zoyte. The SR9 will reportedly go on sale early 2017, for a starting price of around 110,000 Yuan (Rs 10.76 lakh approx).
