2023 Opel Astra Electric debuts with 400+ km range

2023-Opel-Astra-Electric

Exactly a year after the debut of the 6th gen Astra, Opel has now revealed the Astra Electric—available in both hatchback and Sports Tourer (estate) bodystyles; the latter is billed as “the first battery-electric estate from a German manufacturer”. Pricing is yet to be announced, but the Astra Electric hatchback is scheduled to go on sale in spring 2023 while the Astra Electric Sports Tourer will be available in autumn 2023.

Except for those 18-inch aerodynamically-optimized wheels, the Astra Electric models don’t look any different compared with their ICE– and hybrid-powered siblings. In Germany, the Astra Electric offers 7 different colors to choose from, including copperish-yellow, white, dark red, black, gray, silver and blue; all combined with black roof and pillars. All other features and options are carried over from ICE- and hybrid-powered models, including adaptive Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light with a total of 168 LED elements.

It’s the same story on the inside; things look the same, of course. Key features include two 10-inch displays, a head-up display, natural voice recognition, Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR)-certified seats, and all the usual ADAS stuff.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story then, the front electric motor on both models develops 115 kW (156 metric hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque, sipping electrons from a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Opel claims a WLTP range of up to 416 km (258 mi). The company also claims a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph). The battery pack is DC fast-charging capable with up to 100 kW, while the vehicle comes equipped as standard with a three-phase 11 kW onboard charger for the wall box at home.
