Opel has revealed a sporty variant of the Grandland called the Grandland GSe, scheduled to go on sale in Europe in early 2023. Before you get too excited, let me tell you this right off the bat: the Grandland GSe doesn’t offer any more horses than what you get in the Grandland Hybrid Ultimate. But apparently, it offers a “dynamic mixture”.
Visually, the Grandland GSe distinguishes itself with Manta GSe ElektroMOD concept-inspired 19-inch light-alloy wheels; blacked-out lower part of the front bumper, and a diffuser-like rear bumper insert. The example shown here also features the optional black bonnet. Inside, you get GSe-branded and Alcantara-trimmed sporty front seats.
When it comes to the juicy bits, the Grandland GSe is an e-AWD crossover, combining a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors, where one of which is integrated with the 8-speed automatic gearbox. The ICE alone produces 147 kW (200 metric hp) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. The front motor develops 81.2 kW (110 metric hp) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) while the rear motor offers 83 kW (113 metric hp) and 166 Nm (122 lb-ft). However, the system power output is gonna be limited to 221 kW (300 metric hp). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 6.1 seconds. The PHEV also offers a pure electric range of 57-59 km (35-37 mi).
Opel also says that the Grandland GSe gets unique suspension and steering calibration. With McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link axle at the rear, Opel’s sportiest SUV features firmer springs and dampers with KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology, which is claimed to enable different damping characteristics for handling versus comfort.
