Wuling Mini EV Cabrio debuts with toyishly cute looks

When someone says they want a tiny EV cabrio, it’s probably the smart EQ fortwo cabrio that comes to your mind. But as you probably know, smart cars are not available everywhere; they’re certainly not available here in India and in some ASEAN markets as well. Which is why GM’s Chinese partner Wuling has come up with a solution to cater to this niche segment. After launching the Air EV in China and Indonesia not too long ago, Wuling has now launched a drop-top version named Mini EV Cabrio (Hongguang Mini EV Cabrio). According to local Chinese reports, the prices start at around RMB 80,000 (INR 9.25 lakh or US$ 11,595).

Indeed, the Mini EV Cabrio looks a lot cuter compared with the boxy-taxi-looking Air EV. It looks like something that came straight out of a 3D animated movie, and I’m pretty sure for a lot less money, this would make just as many heads turn as an open-top Pagani or a Bugatti. So you got more options that yield pretty much the same results depending on your budget. Yea, of course, you might not get the same speed or power, but the fun factor? Definitely yes.

Inside, you get a two-tone theme with sporty-looking seats; electric windows; air conditioning; a radio; a digital driver display.. and decent space for two fully grown adults, just like in a Bugatti or a Pagani as mentioned. I mean, what more could you ask for? I’m not entirely sure if the roof mechanism is electric or manual, but again, you know, the Bugattis and Paganis don’t offer an electric one either, so you should be fine.

As for the juicy bits, the Wuling Mini EV Cabrio is a rear-wheel-drive EV (yes, you read that right). The rear electric motor depending on the variant offers 20 kW (27 metric hp) and 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) or 30 kW (40 metric hp) and 110 Nm (81 lb-ft). As for the battery pack, you reportedly get multiple options: 9.2 kWh, 13.9 kWh, or 25.5 kWh, with ranges ranging between 120 km (75 mi) and 280 km (174 mi) depending on the battery pack.
