According to a report, Honda Cars India (HCIL) is discontinuing the production and sale of 4th gen City (6th gen globally), Jazz and WR-V by March 2023. The first model to be taken off the shelf is gonna be the Jazz by October 2022, followed by the 4th gen City by December 2022 and finally, the WR-V by March 2023.
And once that’s done, HCIL will have only three cars in its portfolio: 5th gen City (7th gen globally), its e:HEV (hybrid) variant, and the Amaze. The report also claims that HCIL is working on a compact SUV, because you know, SUVs are the ones that sell more these days apparently, and it’ll be launched in August 2023.
As per June 2022 FADA data, HCIL’s market share is 2.62%, which is surprisingly less than that of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s 2.69%, which according to the report is a direct result of the former’s lack of a compact SUV in the market.
The Jazz (sold as Fit, globally) that is currently on sale in India is a 3rd gen model and looks very old for 2022, so much so that you can probably call it a “modern classic”. The 4th gen model never came to India, and it’s probably never going to come either. And as you also probably know, the WR-V is based on the 3rd gen model, and although it is marketed as an SUV, it’s kinda obvious that it is simply a jacked-up Jazz. As for the 4th gen City, well, it should have been discontinued when the 5th gen model was launched. Either way, let’s wait for that new SUV.
