The Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck has been promoted to the third generation with the first-ever Trail Boss and ZR2 trims; upgraded onboard tech, and a 2.7L turbo petrol engine borrowed from the Silverado. The 2023 Colorado lineup is scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. market in the first half of 2023.

The 2023 Colorado trim lineup includes WT, LT, Z71, Trail Boss and ZR2. The new Colorado lineup looks sharper, muscular and a li’l bit aggressive compared with the relatively softer surfaces of the outgoing model. The Work Truck or WT for short, looks very basic and comes with 17-inch wheels with all-season tires. The LT looks better with body-colored bumpers and door handles, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Trail Boss and Z71 are off-road focused models with the former boasting a 2-inch factory lift; both these also boast a 2-speed transfer case; 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped with all-terrain tires; four selectable drive modes (Off-Road, Terrain, Tow/Haul, Normal), and off-road performance page in the central infotainment display.

The ZR2 is the one that has been bestowed with “the off-road beast” title, boasting a 3-inch factory lift; Multimatic DSSV dampers; 17-inch wheels wrapped with 33-inch OD MT tires; modified rear axle with a 3.42 ratio, and front aluminum skid plate protecting the radiator, engine oil pan and the transfer case. This model also gets an additional Baja mode for high-speed desert running, with specific throttle, transmission and other electronic calibrations.

There’s also a ‘Desert Boss’ package available on the ZR2, which comes with 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels; an off-road front bumper, a roof-mounted light bar; an underbody camera, and unique decals.

Inside, you get a standard 11.3-inch central touchscreen and a standard 8-inch digital instrument display; the latter is 11-inches on the ZR2. Yes, even the base WT trim gets a 11.3-inch central touchscreen. Google Built-In and wireless smartphone charging are optionally available. Standard ADAS include Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Following Distance Indicator, and Auto High Beam. There are a bunch more in the options list.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, there’s gonna be a 2.7-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine with varying output figures depending on the trim. In the WT and LT trims, it’s gonna offer 177 kW (237 bhp/241 metric hp) and 351 Nm (259 lb-ft). For Z71 and Trail Boss, the output figures are gonna be 231 kW (310 bhp/314 metric hp) and 529 Nm (390 lb-ft). And as for the ZR2, the power output is gonna be the same 231 kW (310 bhp/314 metric hp), but the torque will be 583 Nm (430 lb-ft). The engine is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

I’m not entirely sure if the Duramax diesels have been dumped, but that’s what it looks like.
