While JLR has plans to go all-electric in the future, its Land Rover brand currently doesn’t have an all-electric product. There are, however, some plug-in hybrid options, but if you really can’t wait and if you live in Indonesia, China has a solution, unsurprisingly. And it’s called the K-Upgrade (or, K-EVCBU), for some strange reason. It looks like the big daddy Range Rover—from the front, while the rest of the vehicle reminds us of the Mahindra Quanto. The K-Upgrade has been launched in Indonesia for IDR 75 million or INR 3.94 lakh or US$ 5,054.
We can’t see it in these photos, but according to the official brochure, the roof has integrated solar panels, which are claimed to charge the battery pack from 40% SoC to 100% SoC in about 3 hours. But anyway, inside, there is space for up to 4 people, and it appears that there’s also a touchscreen display in the middle of the dashboard.
The K-Upgrade is powered by a 48 kW (65 metric hp) single electric motor that draws juice from a 26.7 kWh battery pack that is claimed to offer a range of up to, believe it or not, 336 km (209 mi). It is claimed to do a top speed of 155 km/h (96 mph). But what’s more interesting is that the K-Upgrade is claimed to be AWD!
