After unveiling the world’s fastest electric hypercar, Chinese electric start-up NextEV is allegedly working on an all-electric SUV that could rival the Tesla Model X. According to Automotive News, the company will target the US as its first foreign market for the SUV, confirmed by the company’s co-founder Jack Cheng at the launch of NIO EP9 recently.
The company unveiled a 1,341 hp NIO EP9 track-only electric hypercar recently, which costs $1.2 million to build. Senior design director David Hilton described it as a “bridge” between the company’s race cars and the upcoming SUV, due late next year.
The SUV will have a 70-kilowatt-hour battery pack for a range of 330 miles (531 km), rated on the European cycle (NEDC). Mr. Cheng described the performance as being “as good as or better than the Tesla Model X” but it’ll be cheaper.
“It’ll be positioned at Audi and BMW but with a Toyota price,” Cheng added. U.S. sales will start in late 2018 or in the beginning of 2019.
