Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica debuts with hot looks & cooler discs

Now that Lamborghini is done with the Aventador, it has some extra time to work on the Huracan as well in addition to working on the Aventador successor. And working on the Huracan doesn’t necessarily mean working on its successor, but also churning out more derivatives. The latest one is called the Huracan Tecnica, and it slots between the Huracan EVO RWD and the Huracan STO. It’s for those who want something in between a road-focused and a track-focused, and the Tecnica promises to be just that.

Will get to the technicalities in just a minute or two, but let’s talk a li’l bit about its looks. And it looks a lot more aggressive than the stock EVO but certainly more relaxed than the STO, and that’s the idea, isn’t it? The revised front-end gives off Sian vibes while the inspiration for the daylight opening line comes from the Essenza SCV12. The Damiso 20-inch diamond cut wheels take inspiration from the Lamborghini Vision GT. The wheels are wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires. But anyway, thanks to the revised design, the Tecnica is 6.1 cm (61 mm) longer than the Huracan EVO.

As for aerodynamics, the rear downforce is claimed to be improved by 35% and the drag is claimed to be reduced by 20% compared with the EVO RWD.

One of the key features of the Huracan Tecnica is a new brake cooling system with learnings from Lamborghini’s track experience. There are specially designed cooling deflectors and ducts, directing the airflow into the discs to maximize heat dissipation and reduce brake fluid temperatures and brake pedal elongation—resulting in a longer brake pad life. The carbon ceramic discs measure 380 x 38 mm at the front and 356 x 32 mm at the rear.

The LDVI (Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata) system, or the Lamborghini integrated vehicle dynamics system for us non-Italians, has got model-specific calibration; the LDVI controls the car’s electronic aids in real-time. Rear-wheel steering with torque vectoring, Performance Traction Control System (P-TCS), and MagneRide electromagnetic dampers are some of the other key features of the Huracan Tecnica.

Inside, you get Tecnica-exclusive HMI interface with displaying LDVI functions in real-time, connected telemetry and onboard diaries of destinations and track times. Other key features include height-adjustable sports seats, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa connectivity.

Moving on to the business-end of the story then, the 5.2-litre (5,204 cc) naturally aspirated V10 motor offers the same 471 kW (640 metric hp) at 8000 rpm and 565 Nm (417 lb-ft) of torque at 6500 rpm as its STO sibling. The car weighs 1,379 kg (3,040 lbs)—which is 40 kg (88 lbs) more than the STO, which also explains the official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 3.2 seconds—which is 0.2 more than the STO. However, compared with the EVO RWD, the Tecnica is lighter by 10 kg (22 lbs). The official top speed is 325 km/h (202 mph), which is 15 km/h (9.3 mph) more than the STO.
