I remember my early school days—probably when I was in 6th or 7th grade—when the Tata Estate was such a desirable car. I guess it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that it was a symbol of wealth in the late ’90s in India. There were a few more attempts at selling station wagon/estate cars in India, such as the Opel Corsa Swing, Maruti Suzuki Baleno Altura (Suzuki Cultus, internationally), Tata Indigo Marina, Skoda Octavia Combi, Fiat Palio Weekend.. and during the recent times, there were the Audi RS6 Avant and Volvo V90 Cross Country.
Honda tried with the Mobilio/BR-V but that was more like an MPV, as was the Datsun Go+ which was a half-hearted attempt at making an MPV. The point is, station wagons were destroyed in India by hatchbacks and eventually by wannabe SUVs. But anyway, like me if you’d rather have a station wagon instead of an “SUV”, what are the options in India now? Well, the following is a list of station wagons that are currently on sale in India.
