The marketing geniuses at Volkswagen decided that they’ll not call the coupé version of the ID.4 as ID.4 Coupé but ID.5. I guess the advantage of that is you can claim to have more products in your portfolio. But anyway, the ID.5 is now on sale in Europe, priced at €46,515 for ID.5 Pro and €53,615 for ID.5 GTX. These prices are for the German market and include VAT. Depending on the market, there’ll also be a Pro Performance variant.
Visually, while the ID.5 Pro tries to distinguish itself from the ID.4 with a different front bumper, the ID.5 GTX front fascia looks identical to that of the ID.4 GTX. But as you know, the ID.5 is all about that swoopy roofline that ends right at the middle of the rear end. VW admits that the coupe version has “just” 12 mm less headroom in the back than in the ID.4. Anyway, the GTX rides on 20-inch wheels, while its less expensive Pro sibling is happy to roll on 19-inch wheels. VW claims a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd (0.27 for the ID.5 GTX).
The ID.Light LED Matrix headlights are standard on the GTX, as are the 3D LED taillights with dynamic turn signals. The Pro model gets regular LED lighting.
Inside, the cockpit looks identical to that of the ID.4 and ID.4 GTX, unsurprisingly and obviously. Feature highlights include a 12-inch central touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, height-adjustable front seats, steering wheel with heating function, auto AC, 30-color ambient lighting, and the usual ADAS suite. Options include a panoramic glass roof, an AR head-up display, Travel Assist with swarm data, and Park Assist Plus with memory function. The Travel Assist with swarm data is an interaction between ACC and Lane Assist, combined with navigation data and data from the cloud transmitted by other vehicles. The ID.5 claims a boot capacity of 549 litres with the rear seats up, which is a shortage of 416 litres compared with what the ID.4 claims with the rear seats up.
Unlike the ID.4 which offers 52 kWh and 77 kWh battery pack options, the ID.5 is offered only with the larger 77 kWh battery pack which is claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 520 km (323 mi) in the Pro models and up to 490 km (304 mi) in the AWD ID.5 GTX. The Pro models can be charged with up to 135 kW while the GTX can handle up to 150 kW.
As for the output figures, the ID.5 Pro, ID.5 Pro Performance and ID.5 GTX offer 128 kW (174 metric hp), 150 kW (204 metric hp) and 220 kW (299 metric hp), respectively. The GTX is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in about 6.3 seconds, should such things interest you.
