Ford has unveiled its updated compact crossover EcoSport at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, which opened its doors to the media yesterday. While the Indians will get this next year, Americans will have to wait until 2018, and will be slotted below Ford Escape.
Talking about the changes on the front, the large grille has been pushed upwards, and the lower air dam is also bigger. New fog lamp design which is much larger, and the bumper has been redesigned as well with silverish skid plate. Overall, the front fascia has been made more aggressive.
While the side profile remains untouched, the rear gets a new bumper design. Tail lamp design has been retained. The biggest change perhaps is the removal of the tailgate mounted spare wheel, and the licence plate positioning. Not sure if this is the case with the Indian version too. There’s a 12 volt and 110 volt outlets in the center console, and the rear passengers get a 12 volt outlet. Ford says there are 30 storage places overall.
The exterior changes may not WOW anyone, but the interiors will sure do. New dashboard layout with orange accents and orange contrast stitching on the seats look premium and sporty.
The 8 inch SYNC 3 floating touchscreen infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation. The top of the line trim gets 675 Watt Bang & Olufsen surround sound system tuned by Harman acoustic engineers. Besides the usual automatic climate control, cruise control, there’s voice recognition and ambient lighting feature as well.
Notice the all 4 disc brakes? Anyways, the EcoSport was spotted testing in US few months ago in its current model guise with a 4WD badge on its right door. Which means the Americans will a get Ford’s “Intelligent 4WD” as standard for those who opt for the 2.0 litre 4 cyl engine. The other option is a 1.0 litre 3 cyl turbocharged EcoBoost. Both will get a 6 Speed automatic transmission.
The 2017 Ford EcoSport has been spotted testing in several locations across the world, with last one being in Brazil. Expected in India next year. But its not yet known if India will get a 4WD variant.
