Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has launched the second-gen Celerio hatchback in the country with prices starting at INR 4.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. MSIL claims the new Celerio to be India’s most fuel-efficient petrol car. But anyway, variant-wise ex-showroom prices (in INR) are listed below –

Trim MT AMT
LXi 4,99,000
VXi 5,63,000 6,13,000
ZXi 5,94,000 6,44,000
ZXi+ 6,44,000 6,94,000

The new Celerio sports a fresh new design, but it does look like a lovechild of Baleno and S-Presso. That said, personally, I do like the design. MSIL calls it a “3D organic sculpted design”, which is just as fancy as the design itself. For those who like to know the dimensions, the new Celerio measures 3,695 mm long (+95 mm), 1,655 mm wide (+55 mm) and 1,555 mm tall (+15 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,435 mm (+10 mm). As the above figures suggest, the new Celerio is significantly longer and wider compared with the outgoing model.

Exterior features include blacked-out B-pillars, electrically foldable ORVMs with integrated turn signals, and 15-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can pick from 6 exterior colors: Speedy Blue, Glistening Grey, Arctic White, Silky Silver, Solid Fire Red, and Caffeine Brown.

The cabin too offers fresh looks with generous curves, angles, swooshes and whatnot. A 7-inch touchscreen in the middle draws all the attention. Other key features include manual AC, height-adjustable driver seat, smartphone connectivity, 4 speakers, and all four power windows. Safety equipment includes front fog lamps, dual front airbags, seat belt reminder (driver + co-driver), front seat belt pretensioner & load limiter, ABS, speed-sensitive auto door lock, impact-sensing auto door unlock, immobilizer, reverse parking sensors, and rear defogger. Powering the new Celerio is a K10C 998 cc 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that pumps out 49 kW (67 metric hp) at 5,500 rpm and 89 Nm (66 lb-ft) of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The engine is also coupled with an idle start-stop system which is claimed to contribute to a fuel economy of 26.68 km/l and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 19% across variants.
