Recently, Skoda revealed the 2017 Octavia (4th gen), but not much was told about the interiors. Now there are some details coming in from the Skoda media office. Let’s dive in.
The first thing to tell you is, the Ambition trim features a black/brown combination and full black instrument panel as seen in the featured image. Top of the line Laurin & Klement trim features a beige interior with chrome accents, leather and Alcantara seats. Along with L&K, Style trim too gets decorative strips in the doors with ambient lighting with 10 selectable colours as standard.
The capacitive touchscreen infotainment system can be upgraded from the standard 8-inch to ‘Columbus’ 9.2-inch 1280 X 640 pixel display, which features navigation, MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. An optional LTE module can be ordered for high-speed Internet access with download speeds of up to 150 MBPS. In addition, there is an optional SmartGate feature, which allows you to retrieve vehicle data from your smartphone and use it with certain apps.
There’s a ‘Phonebox’ (from the Ambition line up) feature, that charges the smartphone wirelessly and connects it to the roof antenna. Other features include Canton sound system (also from Ambition up) with 8 speakers, including a centre speaker on the dashboard and subwoofer in the boot.
The Combi variant features a removable LED flashlight in the boot, which is held in place by a magnet on the body.
Skoda says that the bottle holders in the centre tunnel console are shaped so that they interlock with the bottom of PET bottles, allowing them to be opened with one hand.
The optional comfort package has heated steering wheel rim and three customizable keys. As soon as one driver unlocks the vehicle, their personal settings are initiated. These cover a wide range of operating areas, including driving profile selection, assistance systems, indoor and outdoor lighting, Climatronic, infotainment systems and electrically adjustable seats.
Internationally, the 2017 Skoda Octavia will be available in five TSI and four TDI engines, mated to a DSG transmission with 6 or 7 gears, in addition to a manual transmission. There is an all-wheel drive 4×4 for the 1.8-litre TSI and the 2.0-litre TDI. For India though, the company is likely to carry forward the same 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines.
