Caterham has revealed the Seven 170 as a replacement to the entry-level Seven 160, with prices starting at £22,990. As with the 160, the 170 also complies with Japan’s kei car regulations, measuring 3,180 mm long and 1,470 mm wide. Also, depending on the specification, the Seven 170 can weigh as little as 440 kg (882 lbs), making it the lightest production Seven of all time. For those who’re wondering, the Seven 160 weighs 490 kg (1,080 lbs).
Being a kei car means, of course, the Seven 170 continues to use a 660 cc 3-cylinder turbocharged Suzuki engine that pumps out 63 kW (86 metric hp/84 bhp) at 6,500 rpm and 116 Nm (86 lb-ft) of torque between 4,000 and 4,500 rpm. With that, the power-to-weight ratio is gonna be about 0.20 hp/kg, which is slightly better than the 160. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Caterham claims a 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 105 mph (169 km/h), should such things interest you. Anyway, the Standard Pack or S Pack gets you 14-inch ‘Silver Juno’ alloy wheels, LED taillights, full windscreen, heater, and leather seats. The £1,000 R Pack gets you 14-inch ‘Black Juno’ alloy wheels, Black pack, sporty suspension setup, limited-slip differential, lightweight flywheel, carbon-fibre dashboard, composite race seats, 4-point racing harnesses, and a shift light.
