Ford has updated the Expedition for 2022 with Timberline trim and Stealth Edition Performance Package, which boast more off-roading capabilities and sporty performance, respectively. The 2022 lineup will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022. General updates include new LED headlights, new taillights and new wheel designs. The Platinum trim gets a new twin-spar mesh grille and fog lamps with chrome accents.

The Expedition Timberline comes with 10.6-inches of ground clearance which according to Ford, is 0.6-inches more than what Jeep Wagoneer offers. Further off-roading credentials include rugged 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler AT tires (wrapped to 18-inch gloss-black aluminium wheels), F-150 Raptor underbody shielding, Trail Turn Assist—the same feature found in the Bronco—that can tighten the turning radius on hairpin trails, and two-speed transfer case. As for visual bits, the trim also gets a unique grille and Active Orange exterior accents, and Deep Tangerine stitching on the seats. With the optional Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, the Expedition Timberline claims a maximum towing capacity of 9,200 lbs (4,173 kg).

The Stealth Edition Performance Package will be available on Limited and Limited MAX trims. It gets you gloss-black elements such as front grille, mirror caps, roof rails, running boards, tailgate appliqué, rear bumper insert, fog lamp bezels, and headlamp and taillamp housing. Red calipers hiding behind aftermarket-looking 22-inch black aluminum wheels lend subtle contrast. And yes, all the badges including the Ford oval are in black.

The refreshed interiors feature a bunch of optional equipment, including Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driver-assist technology—available on the Expedition Platinum; a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster, a 15.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, and a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen Unleashed sound system. The rear-seat entertainment system has been upgraded to include Amazon Fire TV and the touchscreens now come with 16 GB storage. It’s not all optional though, a 12-inch touchscreen comes standard.

The options list also includes an Active Air Dam which is claimed to improve aerodynamics by deploying at speeds above 40 mph (64 km/h) then automatically retracting at lower speeds for city driving and parking.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story then, both Timberline and Stealth Edition package are powered by a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine with 328 kW (446 metric hp/440 bhp) and 691 Nm (510 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission is a 10-speed automatic.
