It appears that Hurtan is (almost) done building the first few units of the Grand Albaycín, as it said that the vehicles are about to be delivered to its owners in Japan, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. For the uninitiated, the Grand Albaycín is a retro-modern take on the Mazda MX-5, limited to 30 units.
Creating each of these bespoke units apparently takes about 4 to 6 months, and 5 specialized departments are involved in the production process. The first part is, of course, sculpting the body over an MX5 platform, upon completion, it’ll be handed over to the paint department where the customer’s choice of paint will be applied. Post that, the pre-assembled interior components with whatever bespoke upholstery will be put together, followed by verifying the functionality of the electronics. And then, a final, overall inspection is carried out by another team.
As with the Miata, the Grand Albaycín is also available in both Cabriolet or Targa versions, with most customers choosing the latter. Hurtan added that the Grand Albaycín is still available to order, or in other words, the build slots are still available.
Mechanically, the Grand Albaycín remains the same, obviously. There’ll be 131 hp 1.5-litre or 184 hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engines, with the former paired with a 6-speed manual and the latter with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Download the catalogue here.
