The Porsche Taycan and its Cross Turismo sibling have received some updates for the new model year, which include new colors and technological enhancements. The updated models are expected to go on sale in September.
With the new Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus options, buyers will now have more color options. The first option gets you 63 additional colors initially, including Moonlight Blue Metallic, Acid Green, Rubystone Red, Riviera Blue and Viola Metallic. The second option lets you bespoke a paint, even letting you match your favorite accessory.
Tech updates include Android Auto integration in the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, and the optional Remote Park Assist. As the name suggests, the Taycan can be parked via a smartphone, without the driver needing to be at the wheel.
As for other improvements, the Voice Pilot (voice assistant) now understands instructions in everyday language even better; the satellite navigation system calculates more quickly, primarily uses the online search for points of interest (POI) and also displays its information more clearly; layout and operating system have been slightly revamped: there are now five menu options instead of three on the left side of the central display and the icons can be arranged individually.
Without going into full details, Porsche said that the real-world range has been improved. In Normal and Range modes, the front electric motor is completely decoupled, and de-energized in partial load in all-wheel-drive models. In addition, no drive is transmitted to either axle when the car is coasting. This electric freewheel function reduces drag losses, Porsche said. The motors are switched on again within milliseconds only when the driver requests more power or switches the driving mode.
