That’s right, the Toyota GR Supra is being recalled in America for the 7th time, and this time it is to fix a bug in the engine management software that may cause the vehicle to lose braking assist. While the full mechanical braking remains available, the braking distance will be longer due to the lack of assist. This recall includes several other BMWs as well, including 2020 M340i, M340i xDrive, 540i, 540i xDrive, X3 M40i, 2020-2021 X4 M40i, 745Le xDrive, and 2019-2021 Z4 M40i.
Of the total 50,024 potential number of affected units, the 2020-2021 GR Supra accounts for ~13,000 units. Dealers will update the engine management software, free of charge, of course. Owners will be notified via emails starting October 1, 2021. In the meantime, owners (including Supra owners) may also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, should they suspect any anomalies in braking.
