That’s right, the latest model from Audi Sport—the 2022 RS 3 Sedan—became the fastest compact model on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a lap time of 7:40.748 minutes, beating the Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R‘s record by 4.64 seconds. Apparently, the RS torque splitter which we talked about in detail not too long ago, contributed to the record time.
Audi Sport’s development driver Frank Stippler was behind the wheel. Before the record lap, Stippler’s team only adjusted the tire pressure in the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks to the track conditions; the tires are available as an official option for the first time. The record-setting car was also equipped with the optional 19-inch ceramic braking system at the front, and also the RS sport suspension plus with adaptive damper control.
