Bentley has revealed a limited edition of the Flying Spur Hybrid that was introduced earlier this month. The Odyssean Edition according to Bentley, is the first step on a journey to introduce new sustainable materials as part of its Beyond100 strategy. Some of the styling cues come from the EXP 100 GT concept.
These include the ‘Pale Brodgar’ painted detailing on the exterior of the vehicle, such as the headlight and taillight surrounds, front bumper inserts, and side lower inserts. The 21-inch ten twin-spoke wheels are also painted in Pale Brodgar. Buyers can choose from a palette of six exterior colours, all complemented with the aforementioned Pale Brodgar detailing.
Inside, since sustainability is the order of the day, the open pore Koa veneer appliques use 90% less lacquer than high-gloss veneers, making the occupants appreciate the natural texture of the wood. Apparently, the lacquer is only ~0.1 mm thick. The centre console is finished in a minimalist Piano Linen veneer. Other than that, the rest of the interior features a three-colour leather theme with a three-dimensional diamond pattern on the seats and door cards. Notice how the thread colours blend into one another on the seats, which is apparently a nod to the ombré finishes inside the EXP 100 GT.
The Flying Spur Hybrid is a PHEV that combines a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine and a permanent magnet synchronous motor nestled between the engine and the 8-speed PDK. The ICE pumps out 306 kW (416 metric hp) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque, while the e-motor develops 100 kW (136 metric hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The combined figures are 400 kW (544 metric hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The e-motor also acts as a compensator for the turbo lag. The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 4.3 seconds.
A 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is claimed to be good for a pure electric range of up to 40 km (25 mi). Bentley also claims that the Flying Spur Hybrid has the capability to cover more than 700 km (435+ mi) with a full tank.
