Mercedes-Benz India has launched the 4WD version of its entry level SUV – GLA, named GLA 220 d “Activity Edition”. This marks the company’s 9th of the 12 planned launches for India this year.

As the name suggests, the GLA 4Matic packs an all wheel drive hardware, and off-road engineering package. The SUV is powered by the familiar 2143 cc 4 Cyl turbocharged diesel engine, producing 168 hp @ 3400 – 4000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque @ 1400 – 3400 rpm. The engine is mated to a 7G dual clutch automatic transmission.

To differentiate from the regular GLA, Exterior wise, there are black decals on the door, Activity Edition badge and a new color named Mountain Gray. On the inside, GLA 4Matic packs all the bells and whistles of the regular GLA, such as 8 inch Media Display, Smartphone Integration package, keyless start, rain sensing wipers, ABS, ESP, ASR, hill start assist, 6 airbags, ESP, Attention Assist and tyre pressure monitoring system. There are Activity Edition Floor mats for the 4Matic.

The GLA was a key addition to our SUV portfolio as it not only generated volumes for us, but also opened the SUV segment to a much younger customer base. We have sold over 3500 units of the GLA since its market introduction and with the launch of the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition; we expect the volumes to scale even further and add more value to the consumer. The GLA 220 d will now be available with the 4MATIC and off-road package as standard; which will ensure our discerning customers can make the best of every ground with this fully-capable SUV. We are confident that the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition will continue Mercedes-Benz’s dominance in the luxury SUV segment in India.”
