The all-electric version of the Hyundai Kona in Europe has a WLTP urban cycle rating of 660 km (410 mi) on a single charge. However, a test team from the Spanish newspaper EL PAÍS apparently managed to extract nearly 790 km (491 mi) on a single charge, exceeding the homologated range by an impressive 130 km (81 mi).
This, of course, comes with conditions such as driving like you’re not in a hurry for anything. What that means is, those 790 kilometres were covered in 15 hours and 17 minutes at an average speed of 52.19 km/h (32.43 mph). As you can tell from the display, the average energy consumption measured 8.2 kWh per 100 km, which sits well below the WLTP standard of 14.7 kWh per 100 km.
The 64 kWh battery pack-equipped Kona EV started at INSIA, the Technical University of Madrid’s Automobile Research Centre. Post sealing the car’s charging port, the test was conducted along the M-30, Madrid’s ring road, and included the arrival and departure routes to and from INSIA headquarters.
