Reminds you of Audi Sport Quattro? Well, that’s the idea.
A German startup by the name of Elegend has unveiled its first electric sports car named EL1, with really big numbers which we’ll go over in a minute. The production number is not a big one though; the company plans to produce only 30 units. What is big, however, is the price tag, which is €890,000 (US$ 1,054,712) before tax.
The company is located in a town named Beilngries — about 40 km (25 mi) away from Ingolstadt, which is probably why it looks so much like an electric reincarnation of Audi Sport Quattro. But apparently, that’s not the reason; it’s just the love for rally cars from the 1980s. The official statement says that the car “is based on the rally legends from the 1980s”. The rectangular-ish front fascia, those three slits on the bonnet, that black applique on the B-pillar, and the overall silhouette in general, all remind us of that classic Audi, and the designer-founder Marcus Holzinger who apparently grew up as a motorsport fan, is proud of that.

While the four images we saw above are renderings of a concept, the company has actually built a prototype which looks very impressive. The unveiling video features the Audi Sport Quattro as well 🙂 Watch.
Anyway, Elegend says that most of the body parts will be made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The EL1 has a maximum vehicle weight target of 1,680 kg (3,704 lbs) despite packing a 90 kWh battery and two electric motors (AWD). The max power output is claimed to be 600 kW (816 metric hp), good enough for a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of <2.8 seconds and a top speed of ~255 km/h (158 mph). The battery pack is estimated to offer a range of up to 400 km (249 mi).
Not sure if the folks at Audi appreciate the EL1, but I rather like it.
