Beats GT Black Series’ time, but the folks at AMG have a valid point.
The 992-series based 911 GT2 RS is gonna take some time to arrive, but in the meantime, Porsche decided to lap the existing GT2 RS on the Nürburgring with Manthey Performance Kit. That’s right, the GT2 RS had already lapped the ‘ring in 2017 in 6:47.25 minutes, but with the aforementioned kit, the lap time was cut down by nearly 4 seconds to 6:43.300 minutes, beating the AMG GT Black Series’ lap time of 6:48.047 minutes by over 4 seconds. On the slightly shorter 20.6 km route, the lap time is 6:38.835 minutes vs Black Series’ 6:43.616 minutes.
The lap-prepped GT2 RS included additional aero elements which increase the downforce from 49 to 70 kg (108 to 154 lbs) on the front axle and from 93 to 200 kg (205 to 441 lbs) on the rear axle at 200 km/h (124 mph). Also included are Weissach Package’s light magnesium alloy wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear) with aerodiscs for the rear ones. The wheels are said to offer an 11.4 kg (25 lbs) of weight saving. Track-optimized coilover suspension; special racing brake pads for the PCCB ceramic brake system to reduce fade and increase responsiveness; and an additional water tank for spray-cooling of the intercoolers were some of the other highlights of this Manthey GT2 RS.
The 911 GT2 RS sticks to the track like glue with the Manthey Performance Kit — you feel as if you’re in a racing car, especially on faster corners. It is truly breathtaking how the car puts its 700 PS down, and how incredibly well it brakes while always remaining easy to control. — Lars Kern
Of course, the folks at Mercedes-AMG have a valid point. It’s like that good old friend who pulls your leg saying “shut the f up dude! you only did that coz you had some extras on your car”.
