Volkswagen is running an ‘Enthusiast Fleet’ in America where specially modified versions will take part in various fan-focused or “enthusiast” events. The 2021 lineup — which includes a Tiguan SE R-Line and a Jetta GLI concept — is now joined by the Arteon ‘Big Sur’ concept. It was put together by Volkswagen enthusiast and marketing specialist Sean Maynard; Rory Stramer and Gil Plasencia of FMS Automotive, and Jason Whipple from Rotiform.
The name ‘Big Sur’ of course, comes from a mountainous region in California. A 2021 Arteon SEL Premium R-Line in Urano Gray serves as a base for this concept, which is wrapped in a green vinyl inspired by a Golf R that Rotiform debuted at the 2019 SEMA show.
I’m really proud of the amount of detail and attention we put into it. We took all the doors off the vehicle — the hatch, the hood – and spent a good 50 to 60 hours to ensure it was all perfect. Looking at a distance, it looks like it’s a paint job. — Plasencia
Indeed, the wrappers have done a good job in wrapping the entire car to perfection. Complementing that green wrap are the gloss black 20-inch Rotiform TUF-R cast monoblock wheels — shod with Continental Tire Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus 245/45 R20 tires. The concept also sports custom front splitters, side skirts and a boot lid spoiler. Finally, a coilover suspension was added to give the vehicle a lowered stance.
