The GR Yaris has taken all the limelight (and rightly so), which is why Toyota wants to keep reminding us that there’s also the GR Supra in its portfolio. And so, after launching the GR Supra Jarama Racetrack Edition for Europe, Toyota has revealed the 2022 GR Supra A91-CF Edition — limited to 600 units and is exclusive to North America.
The A91-CF Edition builds on the power-upgraded 2021 GR Supra that we read about over a year ago. The CF in the name stands for carbon fibre and the special edition is all about those extra carbon fibre aero elements that have been tuned in a wind tunnel.
These include a front splitter with larger canards, rocker panels on the side, rear canards, and of course, a duckbill rear spoiler. Toyota assures that “the aero kit isn’t just for looks. Its functional purpose improves downforce and stability during both everyday drives and hot laps around a local track”. Complementing the aero kit are unique 19-inch wheels in a matte-black finish.
Adaptive Variable Sport suspension, active rear sport differential, and front Brembo brakes with red calipers come standard. Exterior color choices include matte-gray Phantom, Absolute Zero White and Nitro Yellow. The Alcantara and leather-trimmed cabin would feature a red-and-black theme throughout; carbon fibre accents, standard 14-way power-adjustable heated sport seats, leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, and sport pedals.
The 3.0L in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged engine pumps out 285 kW (387 metric hp/382 bhp) and 499 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque. An 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox drives the rear wheels. For those who care, a 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) sprint time is claimed to be 3.9 seconds.
Toyota further said that the Supra 3.0 chassis was also tweaked heading into its second year of production. Lightweight aluminum braces were added to increase lateral rigidity, along with front and rear bump stops and new damper tuning.
