You might think that Opel got inspired by retro-modern styled Honda e and Ioniq 5 electric cars, which might be true, but according to the company, the inspiration came from the people who transform classic cars into restomods with modern tech and new design. The full name of this car is Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD. The term ‘ElektroMOD’ is, of course, a portmanteau of electric and restomod.
On the front fascia, the designers have applied the new Opel face with a gloss black front grille flanked by matrix LED headlights that first debuted with the Mokka e. On the side, the window shapes and even a little vent-like black insert on the C-pillar have been retained. The rear-end features a modern iteration of the circular taillights. Also, notice a Manta branding with a new Opel font. The car rides on specially designed 17-inch light-alloy wheels from Ronal, shod with mixed-size tyres. The neon yellow paintwork is tastefully contrasted with a black bonnet, black window surrounds, black wheels, and of course, black front and rear fascias.
In the leather-Alcantara-covered cabin, the analog instruments have made way for a widescreen setup comprising 12- and 10-inch displays. The sport seats come from the Opel Adam S. There’s also a Bluetooth box from Marshall — a modern classic in a modern classic. The driver gets a Petri three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with a 12 o’clock yellow marker. Tastefully applied yellow accents on the seats, door cards and on the dashboard add the necessary contrast to an otherwise dark cabin.
Replacing the 4-cylinder petrol engine under the black bonnet is an electric motor that develops 108 kW (147 metric hp) and 255 Nm (188 lb-ft) of torque. Interestingly, the original 4-speed manual gearbox has been retained and so is the rear-wheel-drive setup. A 31 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is claimed to offer a range of up to 200 km (124 mi). The car comes with a 9.0 kW onboard charger for single-phase and three-phase AC charging.
How much? Well, sorry to disappoint you, but this is a one-off.
