Hyundai has revealed technical details of the Staria MPV that debuted a month ago. The minivan will go on sale in select markets starting in the second half of 2021. In Europe, the Staria will be available as Van, Wagon and Wagon Premium variants.
Starting with the dimensions, the Staria measures 5,253 mm long, 1,997 mm wide and 2,000 mm tall. It boasts a wheelbase of 3,273 mm. Depending on the market, the Staria will offer up to 11 seats, and depending on the configuration, the MPV is claimed to offer a maximum cargo space of up to 5,000-litres.
Alright, let’s move on to the juicy bits. The European markets will get only a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, delivering an estimated output of 130 kW (177 metric hp) and 431 Nm (318 lb-ft) of torque, and can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
For markets elsewhere, there’ll also be a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated V6 Smartstream petrol engine with an estimated output of 200 kW (272 metric hp) and 331 Nm (244 lb-ft) of torque. This engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Also, the Staria promises a comfy ride, thanks to a multi-link suspension set-up at the rear axle.
Hyundai also shared few more features of the Staria, especially on the safety front, which will be up to 6 airbags (7 for Australia), all seats with three-point seat belts, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), and Rear Occupant Alert (ROA). The minivan also gets the Wireless Module Seat Belt Reminder (WM-SBR), claimed to be the world’s first seat belt reminder system that uses wireless communications technology.
Also, the driver gets to monitor the rear seat occupants on the infotainment screen, thanks to a wide-angle camera mounted inside the vehicle.
