Hyundai has revealed more details on the upcoming Alcazar SUV, which is a 3-row version of the Creta. While more pictures are still a few days away, we have the technical information and some features to talk about.
Powertrains
Let’s begin with the powertrains then. For petrol buyers, the Alcazar will offer a Nu-series 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder unit that develops 117 kW (159 metric hp) and 191 Nm (141 lb-ft) of torque. For those who want a diesel, there’ll be a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit with 85 kW (115 metric hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque on offer.
Both engines are expected to offer a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The driver gets to play with Eco, City and Sport modes. As with the Creta, the Alcazar will be a front-wheel-drive SUV, and there’s not gonna be an AWD option, not at least at launch.
Safety
As for safety, Hyundai claims the monocoque has been strengthened by generous usage (up to 75.6%) of AHSS (Advanced High-Strength Steel) and HSS (High-Strength Steel).
Ride & handling
There are some changes in the suspension system. The front struts have hydraulic rebound stoppers that are claimed to offer a plush ride over imperfect roads and speed bumps, while the rear shock absorber is upright to offer good body control and a planted feel. The steering wheel has also been recalibrated for easy maneuverability in the city and confident highway manners. The range-topping model rides on 18-inch Diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The Alcazar boasts a wheelbase of 2,760 mm, which is 150 mm more than the 2nd gen Creta. The SUV will be available in 6- or 7-seater configurations, with captain or bench seat options for the second row. The second row will slide while the third row will offer reclining function.
