As expected, the second-generation Land Rover Defender line-up is now joined by the Supercharged V8 models, with prices in the UK starting at £98,505 for the 90 bodystyle and £101,150 for the 110 bodystyle. Land Rover is also offering the Defender V8 Carpathian Edition, available in both bodystyles.
Speaking of which, the Carpathian Edition is finished in an exclusive Carpathian Grey paint, contrasted by Narvik Black roof, bonnet and the tailgate. Additional visual highlights include bespoke V8 Carpathian Edition badges, Satin Black towing eyes and Xenon Blue brake calipers. Rounding off the exterior finishing is a satin protective film.
The exterior of the regular Defender V8 models features some enhancements compared to the non-V8 models, such as quad exhausts with distinctive tailpipes and unique 22-inch alloy wheels with a Satin Dark Grey finish. Another distinguishing factor is Xenon Blue calipers gripping 20-inch discs.
Buyers will have three color choices: Carpathian Grey, Yulong White and Santorini Black; the Carpathian Grey and Yulong White can be combined with Narvik Black contrast roof. Shadow Atlas exterior detailing rounds off the new Defender V8’s exterior finish.
To match the V8 powerplant, there are some other mechanical modifications too, such as stiffer suspension bushes; bespoke spring and damper rates; and larger-diameter and solid anti-roll bars to reduce body roll in extreme cornering. The Electronic Active Rear Differential features a Yaw Controller that fine-tunes the Defender V8’s cornering capabilities. The Dynamic program in Terrain Response 2 has been calibrated for a more agile, playful and responsive character, Land Rover said.
Inside, the Defender V8 features seats trimmed in unique Ebony Windsor leather with Miko Suedecloth and Robustec accents; Cross Car Beam in a special Satin Black finish; steering wheel with an Alcantara rim and satin chrome gearshift paddles; and illuminated treadplates with a V8 script. Buyers can go for the larger, optional 11.4-inch Pivi Pro central touchscreen.
Power comes from a 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine that pumps out 386 kW (525 metric hp) and 625 Nm (461 lb-ft) of torque. An 8-speed automatic gearbox drives all four wheels. The Defender V8 90 is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds, while the 110 model takes 0.2 seconds more, should such things interest you. The top speed of the V8 90 is claimed to be 240 km/h (149 mph).
